Granada on the move! The XVIII Father Marcelino Memorial Popular Race has been held

3,000 runners join forces to build a water well in Sierra Leone, in collaboration with the Arcores International Solidarity Network.

Granada has become this Sunday, April 14, 2024, the scene of the XVIII Carrera Popular Memorial Padre Marcelino, the traditional race organized every year by the Club Deportivo Agustinos in collaboration with the Department of Sports of the City Council of this Andalusian city.

More than 3,000 runners filled the streets, not only in search of victory, but also with the firm intention of contributing to the Arcores International Solidarity Network project in Sierra Leone. The race was held on four different circuits, which allowed the competition to be divided into different categories.

In this way, through the money collected from the registration fees and the With a zerobib, every step taken in Grenada has translated into a gesture of support for the construction of a water well on the Saint Paul school campus in the rural community of Kamalo, in the north of the country.

This infrastructure will guarantee access to drinking water for hundreds of students and inhabitants of the community and will also promote sustainable development and improve living conditions in the area. It will also prevent the children of this school and their families from having to travel many kilometers in search of water and from consuming contaminated water from rivers or stagnant areas, with the consequent risk of contracting serious diseases.

The school campus, which has 710 students and 14 teachers, was one of the places where the Prior General of the Augustinian Recollects, Fr. Miguel Ángel Hernández, during his recent visit to this African country. It is also one of the most important projects for the Order in Sierra Leone. Along with this initiative, training and awareness-raising activities are being developed for the community on the proper use of drinking water and other hygienic practices.
