The Prior General of the Order, Fr. Miguel Angel Hernandez, continues his visit to the communities in Mexico. This week he visited the community of Hospitales, in the Parish of Our Lady of Guadalupe, located in Mexico City, Mexico.
The main apostolate of this community, in addition to its parish work, is the care of the hospitals in the area, particularly the General Hospital and the Children’s Hospital.
Through the administration of the sacraments, the religious bring comfort to the sick and their families who come from different regions of the country.
The community also manages the “Centro de Acompañamiento y Recuperación de Desarrollo Integral” (CARDI), which offers material and emotional support to people with family members hospitalized in the surrounding area. (CARDI), which offers material and emotional support to people with family members hospitalized in the surrounding area. This center provides food, showers, medicine, accompaniment, and also organizes training courses in various areas. This social work, founded by the Recollect community, has been a mainstay for more than 18 years. In addition, the religious provide service in nearby funeral homes and spiritually accompany the relatives of the deceased and bid farewell to the deceased.
After his stay in the community of Hospitales, Fr. Miguel Angel headed to the city of Queretaro. On the way, he made a stop to visit the Augustinian Recollect Nuns of the Monastery of La Trinidad, in Tula. There he shared a very special moment with the cloistered sisters, who represent the contemplative dimension of the charism and which, as the Prior emphasizes, was a source of great joy. Thanks to the sisters for their fraternal welcome and testimony of life.
In Querétaro, the Prior visited the community of San Pío X and the Fray Luis de León School. This community houses elderly religious in need of assistance and, in addition, manages the school, which receives students from infant to high school level. With about 1,300 students, the school is not only distinguished for offering a quality education, but also for being a place where young people grow in faith, accompanied by the religious.
In this community there is also a group of friars belonging to the Secular Augustinian Recollect Fraternitywho have been walking together for 15 years now, as well as from the RAY and the CEARall committed to promote the Recollect spirituality in the city of Queretaro.
At the conclusion of this stage of his visit, Fr. Miguel Angel pointed out that every community I have visited reflects the richness of the Augustinian Recollect charism. From pastoral service in hospitals to the formation of young people in our schools, I see how the love of God is manifested in concrete works. I am deeply grateful for the dedication of each brother who, with his life, testifies that the Gospel continues to transform hearts and realities. I encourage you to continue to be a light of hope for all those who need us.
