The Augustinian Recollects in the Philippines prepare to promote the missionary apostolate

Mission is part of the DNA of the Augustinian Recollects, and the Philippines has always been a reference point in this field. With the objective of revitalizing the missionary spirit among the religious of the Province of St. Ezekiel Moreno, the Provincial Secretariat of Missionary and Ministerial Apostolate has organized a missionary congress, to be held on October 14-16 in Cebu, under the theme. “Embracing Recollects Mission in the Light of Synodality”. (“Embracing Recollect Mission in the Light of Synodality”).

According to the president of the Secretariat, Fr. Anthony Morillo, the congress aims to “deepen our understanding of the Augustinian Recollect missionary charism, strengthen community and co-responsibility, improve pastoral and missionary activities, and engage in social and environmental stewardship”.

Visit to the Philippines of Fr. Ismael Xuruc

Coinciding with his visit to the Philippines, Fr. Ismael Xuruc, president of the Order’s Secretariat for the Missionary and Ministerial Apostolate, will participate in the congress to share his vision and experience in mission territories, and to present projects of support and animation for the mission. He will also take the opportunity to meet with the national leaders of the Augustinian Recollect Youth (JAR) and with the formandi of the formation house in Mira-Nila (Quezon City).

Ismael will visit Puerto Princesa, Taytay, Casian, Inagawan and Plaridel, all on the island of Palawan. He will then return to Cebu and continue to Butuan and Dugmanon in the municipality of Hinatuan (Surigao del Sur).

Fr. Ismael emphasizes that “As president of the Secretariat for Missionary and Ministerial Apostolate of the Order, visiting the Philippines, visiting these difficult mission places and participating in the missionary congress is a great opportunity”. The congress will be attended by all the religious of the province stationed in mission territories in the Philippines, Indonesia, Sierra Leone, Saipan and Vietnam. “All the parish priests and chaplains of schools and universities will also participate. It will be very enriching for all to reflect on the missionary aspect of the Province and the Order.”
