Pregoneras de esperanza: a Holy Week with a woman’s voice

The Augustinian Recollect Family wants to walk with you this Holy Week. For this reason, we have looked for eight consecrated women, religious of our communities, to become our heralds of hope. With their voice, their life and their testimony, they will guide us on the way of the cross to the joy of the Resurrection.

A female voice to announce hope

According to the RAE, a pregonero is someone who announces to the public the celebration of a festivity. It is also someone who spreads a truth, proclaims itproclaims it with force, proclaims it with force, takes it further. This Holy Week, our preachers are eight women of the Augustinian Recollect consecrated life, who will not only announce Easter, but will teach us how to live it.

They will do so from what they are: contemplatives in actionThey are disciples of the Master, women who have made of their lives a silent, constant and luminous proclamation of the presence of Christ in the world. They are part of the cloistered Augustinian Recollect Nuns, the Augustinian Recollect Missionary Sisters, the Augustinian Recollect Sisters of the Sick, the Augustinian Recollect Sisters of the Heart of Jesus and the Sisters of St. James.

From the mountain of transfiguration to the empty tomb

We are inspired by the words of St. Augustine, who, commenting on the Gospel of the Transfiguration, reminds us that Christ is the light for the eyes of the heart. light for the eyes of the heart and that his white garments represent his Church. Like Peter, at times we would like to stay on the mountain, but the voice of the Father invites us to listen to his Son, to to go down to the road and announce the Good News.

As the saint of Hippo says:

“Descend, Peter… preach the Word, urge in season and out of season… fatten yourself to possess, by the beauty of good works, that which is symbolized in the white garments of the Lord.”

Mary Magdalene, the first town crier

St. Augustine also meditates on the figure of Mary Magdalenethe first to announce the Resurrection. She represents so many hearts that seek Jesus with love, even if they do not yet fully understand him. Her story reminds us that touching the Risen One implies recognizing his divinity, not remaining with what we see.not to remain in what we see, but to believe beyond what we see. to believe beyond.

“Do not touch me…I have not yet ascended to my Father,” says Jesus.

It is an invitation to take a step further in faith. Not to remain only in the cross, but to touch the Risen One with our hearts, true God and eternal hope..

A living history that deserves to be told

These eight women do not tell an outsider’s story, nor just a religious tradition. They tell of their lives, their love and their faith in a living Christ who transforms history. Like the heavens spoken of in the psalm – “His proclamation reaches to the whole earth” – their voice will travel the world this Holy Week, through the digital continent.
