In his first 100 days, Pope Leo XIV has marked a style of pontificate that is close, firm and profoundly evangelical, reflecting the restless heart of St. Augustine and transmitting hope to the whole Church.
One hundred days. A short time in the calendar, but enough to perceive a clear and defined style. From his first greeting– “Peace be with you all” –Pope Leo XIV has set the tone of his pontificate: close, profound and with a marked Augustinian accent.
Through his homilies and speeches, we see a pastor who builds bridges and tears down walls, who serves rather than controls, who accompanies rather than imposes. As he himself recalled, quoting St. Augustine: “For you I am a bishop, with you I am a Christian” (Sermon 340).
A Pope with science and charity
In barely three and a half months, Leo XIV has mentioned Mary more than a hundred times and has pronounced the word “love” on countless occasions. He is not looking for headlines, but for meaning. He speaks of peace as a way, of fraternity as a method, of synodality as an attitude. He conceives the Church not as a rigid structure, but as a living body guided by the Spirit.
A pontificate that speaks to the heart
His messages reach young people, lay people, religious, families and the elderly. Never from above; always from closeness and charity. As a good son of St. Augustine, Leo XIV looks at the world with a restless heart that seeks truth and communion in diversity.
A gift to remember these first 100 days
From the Office of Communication of the Augustinian Recollects we have prepared an electronic book that gathers together 100 of the first speeches, letters and homilies of Pope Leo XIV.. A selection that allows us to relive, meditate and preserve the words that are marking the course of this pontificate, and that is made available to all as a free and easily accessible resource.
A network of mercy
Although some call him the “digital pope” because of his ability to reach out through the media, his true commitment is to weave networks of mercy, listening and shared prayer. Networks that sustain and strengthen the world.
I walk slowly but surely
These first 100 days do not yet reveal all that is to come, but they do show how he walks: without stridency or anxiety, aware that the urgent must not crush the important. It will be a pontificate with science and charity, with a heart that unites, as does the Augustinian family.
