The first missionary destination of the Augustinian Recollects was the Philippine archipelago. On July 12, 1605, the first fourteen religious embarked for Manila. Thirteen religious arrived in the Philippines at the end of May 1060. Father Andres de San Nicolas died on the trip, being the first of many friars who left their lives to live the dream of the mission.

The chronicles record the names of those first adventurers who set out for distant lands, full of devotion and impetus, accompanied by Friar Juan de San JerĆ³nimo: “Rodrigo de San Miguel, JerĆ³nimo de Cristo, Miguel de la Madre de Dios, Diego de la AnunciaciĆ³n, Pedro de San Fulgencio, Francisco Bautista, Francisco de la Madre de Dios, AndrĆ©s de San NicolĆ”s, Juan de San Guillermo, JerĆ³nimo de la Madre de Dios, Francisco de San JerĆ³nimo, SimĆ³n de San JosĆ© y AndrĆ©s del EspĆritu Santo”.

The Augustinian Recollects understand that it is necessary to take the Gospel to new territories in order to successfully fulfill the missionary mandate of Jesus Christ and in this way, also extend their charism.

Likewise, it is the first time that the Recollect movement leaves Europe after having grown in number and devotion in Spanish lands.

The Philippines represents a missionary icon not only because of the data collected in history, but also because it is a land where the missionary dimension, which will be a fundamental part of the charism, was successfully developed.

In the same way, Asia, represents an opportunity for many Augustinian Recollects, among them, future saints and blessed, to give themselves with testimonial and martyrial passion.

Names like: Ezekiel Moreno, Magdalene of Nagasaki, Francis of Jesus, Vincent of St. Anthony, Melchior of St. Augustine, Martin of St. Nicholas and countless martyrs, were forged in Asian territories.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
